Vedic Om

Vedic Om

Ancient Vedic Om Symbol - You don't see it very much. It looks to me like a meditator sitting next to a river. I discovered it years ago when I encountered the work of JQ Gaines. JQ is an artist who, among other things, made the most exquisite likhita japa mandalas. She introduced me to likhita japa practice and the stroke progression for the Vedic Om

This image was done with a variety of colored markers on Borden & Riley #224 Paris Paper for Pens. The original was photographed with a Canon G7 MarkII camera and the resulting image post-processed with Snapseed and Stackables on an iPad mini.

For those unfamiliar with the practice of likhita japa, here is a good link.

Jeremiah 2:23 - Know what you have done

know what you have done

Knowing what you have done...
Always a tricky business for you and me.
Our knowing is prism'd by our faceted memories.
Impressions of the past, impressions of
the present even - that's all we
ever really have.

And so I am struck by God's commandment
in the book of Jeremiah to "Know what
you have done." Surely He knew
it is a nigh on impossible
thing for we frail
creatures.

I wonder if He knew what He
was doing by placing
such a heavy
burden
on an already
overburdened soul...
which He made
in precisely
the flawed
form
that
so

enraged

him?

옴 치 림

Om Chirim - protection mantra

옴 치 림 (pronounced Om ChiRim) is the mantra of protection. It's repeated three times in the sprawling Thousand Hand Sutra that is chanted every day in Buddhist Temples..

I love the Thousand Hands Sutra. It has litanies, vows, repentances, and the Great Dharani. It also has lots of mantras, like Om ChiRim.

Best chanted in a crowd, but by oneself is also good.

“...Our challenge as Christians is not to try to convert people around us to our way of belief but to love them, to be ourselves living incarnations of what we believe, to live what we believe and to love what we believe.”

Om Mani Padme Hum

Om Mani Padme Hum

"What is important to understand here is that a mantra is not like a prayer to a divine being. Rather, the mantra - whether recited, written or spun --- is the deity, is enlightenment, immediately manifest. As Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche says, 'There is no difference between the deity himself and the mantra which is his essence.'"
